Short answer

Which choice fits the trip?

Choose one city around the event you most want to visit, then choose the hotel area for the return journey. Vancouver combines a waterfront market with a separate North Vancouver lights outing; Toronto suits a wider city break around the Distillery District; Montréal offers two distinct market settings; Old Québec suits a compact historic-city stay. These are alternative holidays across Canada, not a practical evening-to-evening circuit.

Your shortlist

The choices and their trade-offs

Vancouver: city market and forest lights

Best fit
A city break with a waterfront evening and a separate park excursion.
Trade-off
Capilano is in North Vancouver; the city market and park have different admission and transport needs.
Check the journey
Compare Downtown, West End and Yaletown after choosing your main evening.

Toronto: a city trip with a Distillery evening

Best fit
Travellers who want museums, restaurants and city days around one festive outing.
Trade-off
Ticket requirements vary by date and time; a downtown hotel is not automatically beside the event.
Check the journey
Compare Union / downtown with the exact return from Mill Street.

Montréal: downtown or Atwater

Best fit
A food and culture break with a market evening in a chosen neighbourhood.
Trade-off
The two markets have different dates and weekly opening patterns.
Check the journey
Choose the market day first; compare downtown, Old Montréal and Plateau routes.

Québec City: historic streets and a market stay

Best fit
A shorter walking-first stay anchored in Old Québec.
Trade-off
The market ends before Christmas Day; Upper and Lower Town add different slope checks.
Check the journey
Start with Upper Town for market evenings, then test the actual hotel entrance.

Published calendars can change. Recheck essential details with the organizer before booking. Toronto’s Santa schedule and full entertainment lineup were still pending on October 7.

Start with the calendar, then choose the room

A published season is only the outer boundary. The weekly opening pattern, entry window and final return determine whether the evening fits your dates. Save the official event page and reopen it before paying for a non-refundable stay.

Choose the city for the full trip as well as the event. Plan an indoor daytime stop, dinner and a manageable return. A hotel that makes those ordinary moments simple is more useful than an address selected from a festive photograph.

Give Christmas week its own plan

A market visit before Christmas and a holiday over 24–26 December can be quite different trips. Event-specific closures, reduced hours, meals and transport should all be checked independently. A season stretching into January does not promise every attraction or food stall will follow the same hours.

For a two- or three-night break, use one city base. Add a mountain stay only when it earns several useful days and a confirmed transfer. Whistler and Mont-Tremblant need their own resort and transport checks; the city event calendar does not establish mountain conditions or holiday activities.

A possible rhythm

A simple three-night Christmas city break

A suggested rhythm in one city; choose actual operating days before copying it to your dates.

  1. Night 1 · Arrive and settle

Check in, take a short neighbourhood walk and keep dinner near the room.

  2. Day 2 · City day, festive evening

Group nearby daytime stops, leave a warm break and give the market or lights its own evening.

  3. Day 3 · A different neighbourhood

Use a food or culture day as the second anchor; only add another event if its date and return work.

Decision rules

Use these to break a tie

  1. Pick the event and its operating day before comparing hotel rates.
  2. Choose one city for a short break; keep mountain transfers as a separate decision.
  3. Test the late-evening journey, not only the daytime map distance.

Before you book

Check the details

  • Reopen the organizer calendar and entry rules for the exact day.
  • Confirm holiday meals, room access and cancellation conditions with the property.
  • Check the last usable public-transport connection or reserve the return arrangement.

Useful questions

Before you settle on a stay

Can I visit all four cities on one Christmas break?

They are alternatives spread across Canada. For a short trip choose one; a longer multi-city itinerary needs separately confirmed transfers and enough full days to justify each hotel change.

Does an event link book accommodation?

No. The official event link is for dates and entry. Follow the city stay guide to compare areas, then confirm the exact property and terms with your chosen accommodation provider.
